| About the Society |
The Czech Society for Plant Pathology (CSPP) consists of scientists, researchers, professionals and pedagogical workers from within the Czech Republic working in the fields of plant pathology and plant health. Individuals from outside the Czech Republic also are welcome to join the society. The main goals of the society are to bring together people interested in plant pathology and to discover and disseminate new knowledge. The society was founded in 1996 with just a few scientists and its membership continues to increase. At the end of 2009 there were 79 current members. During the last few years, many young researchers, professionals and lecturers from universities, research and state institutions have joined the society as the new members. The society is managed by a governance committee that meets 4 to 5 times a year. In addition to the publication activities, specialized lectures and conferences, the society also organizes specialized seminars each year, focused on important and timely topics in plant pathology. The society fosters international contacts and collaborations by its affiliations in international organizations (e.g. European Foundation for Plant Pathology /EFPP/, International Society for Plant Pathology /ISPP/) and by the members’ individual contacts and collaborations. The society also supports young researchers through sponsored competitions, enabling them to obtain financial grants that support their participation in conferences at home and abroad. Selected members also take an active role in the editing and publication of scientific research in professional journals such as Plant Protection Science, published in the Czech Republic. The immediate goals of the society are to increase the membership and expand its professional and research activities while promoting plant pathology to the broader public. Additionally, CSPP continues to reach out to the international scientific community to broaden and strengthen its collaborations and attract new members from abroad.
